ABOUT THE INSTALLATION

The installation proposes an interactive design that interprets the visitor sonic gestures. These gestures are incorporated as the fundamental material in the creation of a piece of music.

In the Sonic Oracle experience, the visitor/autor is who really creates the event/piece. “A Sonic Oracle” is not a musical composition, is a medium to express subjectivity through a sonic process.

The interaction device is based on the idea of an oracular consultation. Human inquires and the machine reports, but, what is interpreted here is the sonic gesture (not semantic) provided by the visitor.

The “wisdom sonic report” speaks about what is present (human controlled–actual) and what is going to come (machine controlled–virtual). The interaction device proposes a balance between reaction and autonomy.

[ ABOUT THE CONCEPT ]

The oracular consultation strikes from the desire to inquire for unknown information about ourselves. The Sonic Oracle deals with this desire, from a being eager for the becoming that operates in the virtual plane.

The provided sonic gestures encases worthy information about the subject. This information is interpreted to make a wisdom report, in this way; visitors are invited to create its personal and subjective sound event.

The Sonic Oracle is a machinic/subjective actualizator device. It calls for a listening strategy that focuses on the sounding subjective information.

[ ABOUT THE OPERATION ]

The Sonic oracle was conceived in Max(2 or 3 /Msp, it uses 3 patches in wich 2/3 seconds of sound (provided by the visitor) are captured and digitally stored. Simultaneously, the received signal triggers the execution of a soundscape.

The related soundscapes are composed with transformations of the stored material and with a series of machinic sounds. Each time a visitor steps in, the oracle resumes the process. In the absence of a visitor, the sonic oracle returns, little by little, to its initial state (silent).
